Description

The first remains of Triceratops were found around 1867 in the United States of America, in the town of Golden. In 1889, the genus was given its name by the famous professor Othniel Charles Marsh, which means "three-horned face". The first named species is Triceratops horridus. Later, many more fossils of it were excavated, all of which differed slightly in shape. Marsh and other scientists would name sixteen more species before that. Today, scientists believe that most of these are not separate species. Perhaps only T. horridus is real. There may have been a second species: T. prorsus.
