Description
The first fossils of Parasaurolophus were found in Canada in 1916 or 1917. The genus got its name in 1922, meaning something like "related to Saurolophus", when the type species Parasaurolophus walkeri was named. Three more species have since been named in the genus. One of these is usually considered the separate genus Charonosaurus. P. tubicen and P. cyrtocristatus are presumably valid species. Very few remains have been found of all species together. Among them are some very complete skulls. These gave scientists more insight into one of the most striking features of the genus: the cranial crest.
