In different parts of the Netherlands/Flanders, a farm sometimes has a different name or designation: Heerd (especially in Groningen) Place, pleats (Friesland) or ploats (Groningen) Zathe or erve (East Netherlands) Hof or Boerenhofstee (in Zeeland and West Flanders) Hoeve (in various parts of the Netherlands) Keuterij (a small farm) Uithof, a monastery farm, called voorwerk in Groningen An experimental farm is an institution where new agricultural techniques are experimented with. A model farm is a company that serves as an example for its environment through the use of new techniques. A children's farm is not a farm in the strict sense, but a place where animals are kept that appeal to children and that children can pet. The old farms are slowly disappearing from the countryside, not only in the Netherlands and Belgium, but also elsewhere in Europe. After the Second World War, business operations changed, as a result of which other requirements were set for the buildings. In Eastern Europe, medium-sized and large farms were nationalized and converted into large-scale agricultural enterprises.
