Description
The first fossils of Dilophosaurus were found in 1942. The animal was first named Megalosaurus wetherilli. After a new find in 1964, the genus was given its own name Dilophosaurus, the "two-crested saurian" in 1970. Subsequently, more skeletons were found so that the scientists got a good picture of the structure of the animal. The second species, Dilophosaurus sinensis, named in 1983, is believed to be a completely different dinosaur.
