Description
Plesiosaurus superficially resembled early pliosaurs such as Macroplata, but there were some distinct differences. Plesiosaurus had a fairly short neck and a fairly large head for a representative of the Plesiosauroidea, but in Macroplata the neck was slightly shorter and the head slightly larger. In addition, in Plesiosaurus, the rear paddles were smaller than the front paddles. With Macroplata this was the other way around.
